SOWW volunteers for HGTV Home Makeover

As we are always blessed to have the privilege of taking on tasks on behalf of our nation's wounded warriors, it was indeed an incredible opportunity for Serve Our Willing Warriors to be able to do it on behalf of a wounded warriors already in the area. Serve Our Willing Warriors was invited to assist in the renovation of the home of a wounded warrior Mark Little in Fairfax, VA. In addition to it being in our local area, it was to our astonishment that this entire process was also to be filmed and shown on Home and Garden Television this summer! The full length episode aired this summer however there is already a clip that was shown on the Ellen show here that started it all. After the big reveal all of the details were captured by NBC Washington News!

The show is called Cousins Undercover. If you have ever heard of this amazing show, their missions is to give back by seeking those who are in need of home renovations the most and donating all the services gratis. You can learn more about them here. For them, every neighborhood has a hero, and this time around, Mark Little was the one to be recognize. After loosing both of his legs in the line of duty, Little started his own non-profit to support wounded warriors and help them to get back on their feet after coming back from serving overseas. Serve Our Willing Warriors was proud to support this effort and to know that soldiers like himself feel empowered and able enough to not only take care of himself but go over and beyond for others. 

The episode to feature SOWW and the project we were apart of on HGTV aired  July 2nd at 8pm! Here is what our adventure looked like:

Serve Our Willing Warriors named Citizens of the Year!

It was such a surprising and amazing way to begin 2014.  We never could have imagined . . .

 

All our gratitude goes to The Gainesville Times for the wonderful honor. It was a terrific source of encouragement for all of the volunteers at SOWW!

Our thanks also go to reporter Dan Roem for coming to our Holiday Open House to spend some time getting to know us and then sharing SOWW's vision with the Gainesville Times readership. An additional thanks goes to photographer Doug Stroud for all his time spent on a very cold day trying to make us look photogenic while our teeth were chattering! 

Mr. Roem promised us that we would like the article.  Oh yeah!  We like it a lot!

This weekend marks both our first official event and our first television news interview! 

Our Inaugural "Run With Warriors" 5K Run/Walk (tomorrow)

SOWW + The Bull Run Warriors Retreat 

On Channel 4 News at 6pm tonight!   

 

Reporter David Culver of NBC Washington came out to Haymarket to talk with us about SOWW and visit the future home of Bull Run Warriors Retreat.  We spent a beautiful afternoon yesterday showing him around the property.  SOWW's Vice President, John Dominick, and Secretary, Jackie Glenn, answered questions about Serve Our Willing Warriors and our vision for the upcoming retreat.  We are very grateful for Mr. Culver's time and his great interest in our recovering Willing Warriors + Their Families.

Packet Pick-up and Same-day Registration @ 7:30am - 8:30am 

 

We are thrilled to have over 200 registrants, but there is always room for more!  Our online registration is closed, but you can still register tomorrow morning before the event at the Dominion Valley Sports Pavilion (more info under the flyer below).  If you have already registered and cannot pick up your packet this evening, you can do so in the morning.  The 5K starts at 9am!

 

 If you do happen to attend the 5K, we would love your feedback on the event, so please revisit us and chime in.  This is our first event and we hope to make each successive year bigger and better.  So we would really love your input.
